Another salmonella outbreak in northern california: "LIST OF RESTAURANTS"

The net has been widened in the case of recalled spices linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened dozens of people in four states, including six in the Sacramento region.

State Department of Public Health officials today announced that pepper sold at retail stores under the name "Uncle Chen" have been added to a list of recalled products manufactured by U.F. Union International Food Company, based in Union City.

The company has come under state and federal scrutiny due its white and black pepper products being associated with a recent salmonella outbreak. Forty-two people in four states, including 33 people in California have contracted salmonellosis. No deaths have been reported.

Of the California salmonella cases, five have been reported in Sacramento County and one case was reported in El Dorado County, public health officials said.

The Uncle Chen products recalled today include whole and ground white pepper and whole and ground black pepper. All four products are sold in 5-ounce containers, the public health department's Web site states.
